Stuðningsyfirlýsingar EUROCOP og NPF vegna voðaverkanna í París

STATEMENT
The European Confederation of Police (EuroCOP) is profoundly saddened by the senseless French terrorist attacks where 17 victims lost their lives. Amongst these victims there were three police officers who died while doing their jobs.
As French President François Hollande rightly said, these officers “died with courage, bravery and dignity”. EuroCOP pays tribute to the three police officers who were defending and protecting citizens.
As the guardians of safe societies, police officers across Europe put themselves at risk on a daily basis by preventing crime and protecting citizens from threats. The massacre in France is a tragic reminder of the changing nature of the security threats facing European countries. The threats of today and tomorrow are no longer easy to define and it is only through solidarity and cooperation amongst European citizens, police forces and governments that will allow us to respond effectively to these threats. Europe’s police officers play a crucial role on the frontline of the fight against terrorism and it remains essential that they are provided with the appropriate support, training and resources needed to carry out their duties and to keep European citizens safe and secure for the long term future.

Condolences from the Nordic Police Union
After the tragic events in France on Wednesday 7 January 2015 and the following days, the police family mourns the tragic loss of life after the horrible and completely incomprehensible terror attacks. French police officers were killed and injured fighting terrorism and trying to make society a safe place to live.
Just as the police are the most important protectors of democracy and the rule of law, so cartoonists and journalists are some of the most important protectors of the freedom of speech in a democracy. The Nordic Police Union will always support people who follow the democratic ground rules, and therefore we sincerely support the people of France in these dark and difficult times.
Our heartfelt thoughts, prayers and love are with the French police officers – our colleagues and friends – and their families at this truly sad time in European history.

President
